Face masks have become something of a wardrobe staple and the more secure the mask is on your face, the better the protection. However, this also means friction which leads to irritation and inflammation. With issues like maskne (mask related acne caused when your mask traps air from your mouth and makes the skin beneath the mask a breeding ground for bacteria), itchy skin, dryness and redness, caring for your skin under your mask is super essential. Here’s what you should know:

When choosing a mask, go for natural fibers like cotton, silk, wool and linen which are gentler and less irritating to the skin unlike synthetics: polyester, acrylic and nylon. Also use ingredients like rosewater and aloe vera – both found in Eden’s Elixir– to soothe your skin before applying a fragrance-free moisturiser like our Glow Oil which is 100% shea nut oil for soft and glowing skin. Knowing this, there are still some vital questions you need to ask like:

Do I Still Need Sunscreen?

Yes you do. Masks only cover a part of your face and don’t protect you from the harmful rays of the sun. You’ll need sunscreen while wearing a mask and even when you’re at home because UV rays can find their way through windows.

How About Makeup?

It’s totally fine to wear makeup around your eye area since the mask isn’t covering it but avoid makeup, if you can, on other parts of your face. If you need to have on at least foundation, use a lightweight formula that won’t clog your pores and increase your chances of getting maskne.
