What is a Toner?

You’re trying to be better with your skincare routine and everyone keeps saying you should get a toner but all you can think is, “what exactly is a toner?”. Well, the short answer is a toner completes the cleansing process. The long answer is, a toner wipes away any stubborn traces of impurities missed by your cleanser, and provides extra cleansing after wearing makeup or sunscreen which are usually heavy on the skin. Toner also restores a healthy balance to the pH levels of our skin, preparing a calm base for serums and moisturisers to be absorbed more easily into the skin. When to use a toner
A toner gently revitalises your skin without stripping its natural moisture but a toner should not replace your cleanser. Toner should be applied within a minute of cleansing or exfoliating, morning and night and before using any other skincare products. If your skin gets dry or irritated easily, use toner once a day.

How to use a toner

When shopping for a toner, it’s a good idea to look out for gentle and effective ingredients such as rosewater for hydration and aloe vera for soothing inflammation while avoiding ingredients like alcohol which could lead to excessive dryness.
